Weekly Feature: Naot
When Kibbutz Naot Mordechai founded the kibbutz shoe factory, it was a one room workshop that made simple work shows and sandals. Today, it has become an international business and Israel’s leading manufacturer and exporter of shoes.
Naot manufactures a large variety of footwear with a unique anatomical footpad. The footpad is a “negative” print of the foot, much like the footprint left when walking in the sand. It is flexible, soft, shock absorbent, supports the heel and alleviates tiredness and pain. The footbeds are made of natural cork and latex and is covered in pampering layer of suede. The uppers are made of high quality Italian leathers. (Yaleet, Inc., 2014)
Although Naot began as an Israeli company, today it has set up locations in other areas of the world, including Canada.
Corinne Lissoos, is the President of Naot Canada. After living in South Africa and Israel, Lissoos immigrated to Canada from Israel with her husband Max in 1989. Because of her husband’s love for the Israeli shoe, Lissoos chose to launch Naot Canada. Working only from her garage and displaying shoes in two Toronto-are health food stores, she acquired a following.
Naot’s footwear encompasses the idea that “it’s fashionable to walk in comfort” (Teva Naot, 2011). Each year a newer and more varied collection of shoes, clogs, and boots are released. The stylish footwear appeals to diverse audiences, while maintaining the high quality, natural substances from Europe’s finest manufacturer’s of cork, latex (natural rubber), and superior Italian leathers.
